$42,500.00
The 1886 $20 Silver Certificates are distinctive for their solid green “Diamond Back” design,. At the center is the obscure portrait Secretary of the Treasury Daniel Manning as engraved by Lorenzo Hatch. Manning died in office in 1887 and was memorialized on this series face with the same rapidity as Hendricks was depicted on the 1886 $10 notes. The allegorical figures supporting the framed portrait symbolize Agriculture and Industry. This is a rarely seen Friedberg number in any grade, and the large spiked red treasury seal at the left makes the design quite distinctive. Of the 13 notes reported on Track & Price surviving from the 12,000 printed, three are held by institutions and not available to the collecting community.
