The 1934 $500 Federal Reserve Note marked the final redesign of high-denomination U.S. currency originally introduced in the 1918 Series. This update replaced John Marshall’s obverse portrait with President William McKinley, a figure known for his economic reforms and role in the Spanish-American War. The note includes a green Treasury seal, green serial numbers, and the state seal letter “B” in black, designating it as a smaller-sized Federal Reserve Note. Its reverse design is minimalistic, primarily displaying the denomination. This redesign was the last for larger currency notes, which were mainly used in high-level financial transactions.
